Evaluation task 1

In what ways does your product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Within my magazine i used many conventions from existing music magazines to create a realistic, believable looking music magazine.  For example  I created a logo to fit the title , I used a rainbow picture as my logo. This follows Forms of most media magazines.
I used the same font for the title magazine as ‘Vogue’ magazine does to create a more professional look, However underneath this I added a tag line to challenge the form of a professional magazine to make it look more fun than serious. I also did this by making the writing bigger and choosing to write in a less formal style when writing the interview and contents page. Like a existing magazine I carried on the theme of the page heading through to the contents page to create a more professional look.
I also feel that the images taken for the magazine conform with the style of the more modern exisiting music magazines. I took natural un-posed pictures whilst chatting for the interview pictures to make it seem as if it was more real and posed pictures for the front cover to achieve eye contact with audience to get a more effective picture to grab attention of audience and create emotion toward the magazine because of the picture style.
I chose to use props within my pictures, I used drum sticks to  emphasise the musical background ,a chair to act as if in an interview and also a bean bag to create a relaxed feel to the photos. This I think challenges the form of existing magazines as they usually have very posed pictures with busy backgrounds where as I went for plain backgrounds to seem more chilled creating stronger relations to my target audience.
My aim for the mise-en-scene of the pictures were to act as natural as possible for example natural hand gestures, smiling and laughter as this way I felt the emphasis of the laid back nature of the magazine  would shine through from the pages which I think it  did successfully.
The music genre was pop/rock which seems to be the most commercial and this is displayed throughout the magazine for example, conforming with existing magazines in the contents page displaying a variety of different contents relating to different styles of music and pictures on the front cover of both drum sticks and headphones replicating the two different music styles coming together.
I aimed to layout my magazine in a ‘scrap book’ type of style. This is more apparent on the double page spread as the pictures are angled differently and makes it look less formal and more personal between the artist and reader. This is not seen often in existing music magazines.
The model I chose to be in the pictures for this magazine would conform with models from other magazines as she is young, like the target audience making her and the magazine more relatable and attractive, which encourages readers to warm to the interview and the magazine itself.

Organising the photo shoot.

I chose not to use this picture within my magazine and i felt it was too posed. for example the sunglasses and the tape were too typical for a music magazine style and seemed as if we was trying to hard to create the perfect magazine pose.

i felt this aswell for this picture above although i used it on the contents page as , as a small picture it looks effective and professional.

i chose not to use any of these three just as i thought there was too much background shown or the lightening was not correct for what i wanted.
i used this photo on the front page of my magazine as i felt it was perfect for what i needed. The back ground was not too busy and the face shot created eye contact with the camera and emotion with the audience. The prop creates emphasis on the musical side of the photograph which was perfect for the front cover.

I used the 4 black and white pictures as they created an elemant of natural beauty that was not posed and a cool relaxed feel with the black and white tone. They reflect the attitude of the target audience and also show characteristics of a teenager as well as being pleasing to the eye and perfect for the double page spread.

These last pictures i did not use as i did not like the lighting that was created or the angle from low down. I felt it made the model look average where as in other shots had looked much more beautiful and didnt create the over all natural, relaxed feel i was searching for.

Finished Magazine Cover, Contents Page and Double page spread.

Here are the process i went through to create my magazine.

I used mainly the programmes Power Point, Paint shop pro, Paint and word.

Audience feedback of Front cover, contents page and double page spread.

I will take all of these comments into account, and begin by adding more cover lines to the front cover. I will also make the font on both the contents page and double page spread more interesting and bigger, as the audience commented that it needed to be more interesting.
